The Williamson County Commissioners Court appointed Mike Lugo as county fire marshal and administered his oath of office during its Jan. 28 meeting, the court announced.
County emergency services director Bill Zito introduced Lugo as a candidate with fire chief and fire‑marshal experience, including time as a League City fire chief and prior fire‑marshal duties. Zito told the court that Lugo brings “the right tools” and an emphasis on building relationships and community safety.
The court voted to approve the appointment by voice vote; commissioners recorded the motion as passing unanimously (3–0). After the vote the court swore Lugo into office. During the oath Lugo pledged to “faithfully execute the duties of the office of Williamson County Fire Marshal” and to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this state.” The oath also included the statutory‑style promise that the marshal will not have a direct or indirect financial interest in the sale of firefighting equipment or in fire insurance business.
Zito and other staff noted that the fire marshal role relies on both fire‑safety planning and investigative authority. Zito said the office includes peace‑officer capability and that personnel there, including an interim who has conducted arson work, provide law‑enforcement support for fire investigations. The court did not specify an effective date in its public remarks.
The commissioners asked no substantive follow‑up questions during the public portion of the appointment. A photo of the swearing‑in followed the oath.
Action: The court approved the appointment of Mike Lugo as Williamson County fire marshal (motion passed 3–0).
