A significant water leak that began in an upper-cabinet plumbing line at the county camp’s kitchen area prompted emergency mitigation work and raised the possibility the facility may be unusable for summer programs.
The county engaged a large-loss response team, Servpro, to remove wet insulation, begin structural drying and document damage for the county’s insurer. Tony (Servpro) told commissioners the crew had mobilized drying equipment, removed wet insulation in the crawlspace and basement and would provide daily photo-and-status updates to the county’s point of contact.
County Chair and commissioners said the immediate priority was to stop ongoing damage, document losses for the insurer and speed reconstruction so planned spring and summer activities are not lost. Servpro’s representative said an adjuster from the insurer had begun measurements and that an electrician had been approved to run temporary power to support drying equipment.
Commissioners and staff discussed timing and funding options, including applying to the State Loan and Investment Board (SLIB) for emergency funding if insurance coverage and deductible amounts did not cover reconstruction. The board directed the chairman and county staff to continue coordinating mitigation, to gather estimates for reconstruction as soon as the insurer completes its review, and to provide daily email updates with photos to designated county stakeholders.
Early assessment by county maintenance and Servpro indicated the damage was concentrated in the kitchen and program space above and adjacent to the kitchen; county staff said the main public areas of the building remained unaffected. Servpro advised that some vinyl plank flooring upstairs is non-friable and can be addressed in reconstruction; the company will submit a reconstruction budget that the insurer and county can negotiate.
Commissioners emphasized urgency because missing the spring/summer schedule would disrupt camps and community services. The board urged staff to document costs and timelines that could support a SLIB emergency-funding request if necessary.
Staff and vendors will submit mitigation reports, contractor proposals and insurance‐adjuster documentation; the county will post stakeholder updates and return to the commission if urgent expenditures beyond mitigation are required.
Evidence supporting this report: commission discussion and Servpro briefings on-site and by phone, including the vendor’s commitment to daily photo updates.
