Lubbock County Commissioner's Court approved a $45,000 allocation to the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LIDA) to contribute to a feasibility study and planning work related to the civic center and Expo Center. The funds will be combined with money already approved by the City of Lubbock and are intended to support feasibility, funding analysis and governance options for a potential city-county partnership on the facility.
Judge Parrish moved to approve the $45,000 request under the county's economic development authority (Section 74.602 of the Texas Property Code and Section 381.004 of the Texas Local Government Code). Commissioner Dalby seconded the motion and the court approved it by voice vote.
Commissioner Dahlgren said he supports the project but asked that LIDA involve the agriculture community in the feasibility study so that agricultural stakeholders are not left out of planning or governance discussions. "I want to be sure that Leda involves the ag community in their feasibility state. I don't want them left out," Dahlgren said during the discussion.
Court members characterized the project as benefiting the city, county and the wider West Texas region and said the request aligns with funds intended to be used for projects of this type. The motion carried by voice vote; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally.
