The Grayson County Commissioners Court approved a resolution authorizing the county judge to provide a support letter for foreign‑trade‑zone (FTZ) benefits should a qualifying company request them.
A presenter who identified himself as Tony described how FTZ rules have changed since the early 2000s and said modern FTZ approvals are company‑specific rather than tied only to an airport or industrial park. “What I’m asking for consideration today is it’s a two‑step process… The first phase is this resolution, which basically just says the commissioners and the other taxing entities support the concept. It doesn’t commit anything to anyone,” Tony said.
Tony told commissioners that FTZs can exempt inventory from local property tax while goods are in storage, and that other FTZ benefits (for example, delayed tariff payments) do not affect local taxing entities. He said taxing entities would receive a company‑specific financial analysis and an opportunity to approve any specific request.
Commissioner Arthur moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Hartenberg seconded. The court voted in favor and the motion carried.
