The Bellaire Board of Adjustment approved its 2024 annual report to City Council and several administrative edits at its meeting (date not specified), and members approved the July meeting minutes and welcomed a new commissioner.
The board voted to approve the annual report with edits to set regular meeting start times at 6 p.m. and to change a reference from “residents” to “property owners” in the report’s text. The report as approved will be presented to the Bellaire City Council on Monday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m., the board was told.
Weldon Taylor, a member of the commission sitting in for Chair Jerry Borwick, opened the meeting and confirmed a quorum of four commissioners present, including Paul Beavers, Gigi White and the commission’s newest member, John Klug. Taylor introduced Klug and noted Klug had served three terms on the Planning and Zoning Commission before joining the Board of Adjustment.
The board also approved the minutes from the July meeting; the transcript records that Klug abstained from that vote. A staff member told the board the council presentation date is Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. and noted a wording correction in the report related to the city attorney’s title.
A staff representative reported no zoning applications had been received for February and said the Board of Adjustment’s meeting scheduled for Feb. 20 will be canceled. “We did not receive any application zoning applications for the month of February. So our meeting on February 20th, will be cancelled,” the staff member said.
During discussion of the draft annual report, a member noted a single change between the published agenda and the packet: the second-page wording was revised from “residents” to “property owners.” The member summarized the edit as follows: “It provides an avenue for property owners who have a particular situation to appeal to the board, for relief when they believe the zoning ordinances, if enforced, would create a hardship for them.” That revised language was incorporated before the vote.
There were no docket items on the board’s agenda and no members of the public spoke at the meeting. The board adjourned at roughly 6 p.m.
