Council accepts sign control board minutes and approves consent agenda

Richardson — The City Council accepted minutes from the Jan. 8 Sign Control Board meeting and confirmed the board’s approval of Sign Control Board Case No. 25‑1, a sign permit modification for First United Methodist Church of Richardson; the council also approved the consent agenda by unanimous vote.

City planner Charles briefed the council that Chapter 18 of the city code limits pole signs in the area to 20 feet and that the First United Methodist Church requested a 25‑foot pole sign because a water line easement at the front of the property requires 18 feet of clearance to the bottom of the overhang. Charles told the council the sign control board approved the request 5‑0 and that the existing monument sign would be removed if the new sign is installed.

A motion to approve the sign control board minutes and case was made by Mr. Ryder and seconded by Mr. Schenkel; council members voted unanimously to accept the minutes and the case. The council then moved the consent agenda, which passed unanimously as well.

Why this matters: the council’s acceptance confirms the sign control board’s decision and finalizes the administrative approval for the church’s 25‑foot pole sign as described to the council.
