Resident asks Kaysville for clearer police notifications after late media coverage

Belle Starkey told the Kaysville City Council on Dec. 5 she had seen a police release about an arrest dated Oct. 2 that was later reported by local media, and she asked how the city or police could provide earlier or clearer notifications to neighbors so residents know when to take precautions.

Starkey said she was not seeking crime statistics but rather clearer, more timely information for neighbors when incidents occur that might affect immediate safety. She said the news coverage came days after the event and did not provide a clear picture of whether crime is increasing.

Council members thanked her for the question and suggested she talk directly with police staff about notification policies. The council did not act on the matter or direct staff to prepare a policy change at the Dec. 5 meeting.
