Lauren, the ballpark’s business development manager, told the League City Convention & Visitors Bureau on Feb. 1 that the ballpark will host the Youth World Baseball Classic opening ceremonies on Thursday, March 13, with tournament play running March 14–16 and daily hours roughly 8 a.m. to 9–10 p.m.
“Hotels have already been booked. I've been in direct conversation with them throughout the 3 months since I've been here. We're really excited about this event,” Lauren said at the meeting, noting organizers expect 5,000 to 6,000 people in the park daily and “a total of 23 to 30,000” over the multi‑day event.
The bureau packet lists more than 20 sponsors and vendors committed to the Classic, including Rawlings, Jason’s Deli and Raising Cane’s. Lauren said former major‑league manager Dusty Baker will attend the opening ceremony and organizers are seeking mascots, food vendors, and country‑themed vendor booths to represent participating nations. Ballpark staff also plan a visitor welcome table during the opening night recognitions.
The business development manager described several sponsorship and marketing opportunities the city is offering, from naming rights and digital scoreboard ads to smaller in‑kind activations and a proposed “fan zone” where attendees can buy a family headshot to place on a section replica in the stands. City staff are circulating a sponsorship packet and marketing materials, and a QR code sticker tied to the city’s visitor page will be placed on some seats to direct attendees to ballpark and local information.
Lauren said the park’s communications team is finalizing the opening ceremony script and estimated staff should be on site by about 5 to 5:30 p.m. the night of the ceremonies. She also told board members the ballpark has produced promotional video and photo assets and will continue updating materials as new enhancements are completed.
Board members praised the ballpark staff’s outreach and preparations. Jose, a board member, described the ballpark as an important community venue and said he is “excited to see the things that are coming.”
City staff emphasized sponsor vetting and presentation standards; Lauren said larger sponsorships will require formal approval and that some categories (for example, CBD shops and massage parlors as scoreboard sponsors) will not be accepted for prominent signage. Staff also asked board members and volunteers to help staff the welcome table during the opening ceremonies and noted communications will distribute the finalized schedule and script in advance.
The ballpark report also previewed other spring and summer events, including a Sip and Stroll at the ballpark scheduled for April 12, 12–5 p.m., with beverage vendors, shopping and a children’s area.
The bureau did not vote on any motions related to the ballpark during the meeting; staff presented the event plans and requested board assistance with outreach and volunteer staffing.
The ballpark update and the sponsorship packet are intended to support ticketed tournaments and non‑sport events and to drive hotel and visitor engagement during peak weekends.
