Several commissioners used their remarks on April 1 to report ongoing concerns about Gulf World Marine Park and to praise law enforcement response during busy spring‑break periods on the county s beaches.
Commissioner Pease said he toured Gulf World after social‑media reports and that state and federal authorities, including Florida Fish and Wildlife, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Panama City building department, are conducting investigations. "State and federal government officials were asked to do a full investigation. Florida Fish and Wildlife, Panama City building department, and the USDA are working on a full investigation as we speak," Commissioner Pease said. He noted Gulf World had filed for Chapter 11 and said the county and the city are "in lockstep" while awaiting final reports.
Commissioners praised law enforcement agencies and first responders for crowd control and public‑safety operations during spring break. Pease said the Tourist Development Council (TDC) has set aside a $3.5 million public‑safety reserve to reimburse extraordinary public‑safety expenditures tied to tourism peaks. "I want to offer a heartfelt thanks to every member of the Bay County Sheriff's Department, the Panama City Beach Police Department, and the Florida Highway Patrol," Pease said.
Other commissioners requested additional briefings and suggested inviting regional environmental partners such as Dusty May to a future meeting to discuss waterways and inlets.
There were no formal votes attached to these reports; commissioners asked staff to continue coordination with state and municipal partners.
