Johnson County staff and a City of Cleburne environmental coordinator discussed a tentative schedule for countywide tire-collection events during the spring months, with coordinated sites in each precinct and weekday follow-up pickup days. The court and the city agreed tentative dates starting on the weekend of April 26 and continuing through mid-May, subject to final confirmation from precinct offices.
Officials said the program follows a prior schedule that used a Saturday collection followed by Monday–Wednesday pick-up windows. For 2025 organizers proposed a Saturday collection (9 a.m.–3 p.m.) followed by weekday collections (8 a.m.–1 p.m. suggested), with each precinct receiving two primary trailers and limited additional trailer support where needed. A county staff member also said the county acquired an enclosed 53-foot trailer that could be used to increase hauling capacity.
Organizers emphasized acceptable tire types and rules for drop-off. County staff said the program accepts passenger-car and light-truck tires up to the maximum size described in the vendor guidance (transcript phrasing: “11 24 5 truck tires”); steel wheels or rims are not accepted. Vendors and county staff will publish exact size limits and “no rims” instructions in outreach materials.
Logistics and funding
City and county staff said a vendor stands ready to provide trailers on short notice when dates are finalized. The county has some funding from the regional council of governments grant program and earlier allocations; staff said they will finalize trailer counts and confirm whether additional vendor payments are required.
Court direction
Commissioners asked staff to finalize the dates with precinct offices (the court asked staff to check with Commissioner Woolley’s office before publicizing the schedule), prepare outreach graphics for social media, and coordinate with the county’s communications team to publish the finalized schedule and size restrictions. No formal vote was required; the workshop item was scheduled and discussed for coordination only.
Quotes
“We’ll put the dates on there… if you’ll get it to us, then I’m pretty sure Marshall Moore can just share it as well,” a commissioner told county staff about social media outreach.
Ending
Staff will confirm precinct availability, finalize dates and publish outreach materials once precincts and city vendors confirm availability. Residents will be asked to follow posted size limits and not to bring rims or mounted tires.
