The board voted to approve a cooperative contract with Kirby Smith Machinery for purchase, repair and rental services for Komatsu‑branded construction equipment used across city departments, Tom Grama, director of facilities and fleet, told the board.
Grama said the proposed agreement is a one‑year contract with four optional one‑year extensions and a total not‑to‑exceed authorization of $7,749,000 across the five years. The contract covers purchases and specialist diagnostic and repair services for heavy equipment used in public works, solid waste and other departments; acquisitions will be proposed through the city budget process and the city is not obligated to spend the full NTE.
As an example, staff cited a 2025 Komatsu articulating dump truck for solid waste that would cost more than $1 million. Board members asked where repairs would be performed; Grama said units could be serviced at the expanded fleet shop at the landfill, in the field, or by the manufacturer depending on repair needs.
The board moved to approve the cooperative contract; the motion passed as recorded in the meeting.
