Rhonda Stevens, principal of Broadview Elementary School, presented the board with the school’s monthly spotlight, describing facility upgrades, community-supported projects and student achievements.
"Our mission is to ensure that our students realize their full potential as responsible, productive citizens, proficient communicators, and creative problem solvers in a caring, secure, and positive environment," Stevens said.
Stevens described a new outdoor learning lab called the Eagle’s Nest built on about 3.4 acres adjacent to Tims Ford Lake. She said the project received a $5,000 TBA STEM grant that funded the initial classroom structure and a quarter-mile nature trail; phase two will add four interactive STEM stations titled Healthy Habitats, Wondrous Weather, The Plant Patch and Numbers in Nature.
Stevens also highlighted extracurricular achievements: Broadview’s first-year robotics team, the "Eaglebots," led by Anthony Ness, competed at regionals in December and scored high enough to advance to the state competition in Cookeville in February. Stevens said several team members attended the board meeting and offered to demonstrate their robot.
The principal recognized longtime teacher Annette Johnson, who received an award from the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center and is featured in The Making of a Hero by Rita Lorraine Hubbard. Stevens said Johnson used award funds to purchase books for all fifth-graders and that the author will be asked to sign copies for students. Stevens showed photos of recent field trips and community events.
Board members applauded the school’s activities and thanked staff and students for the presentation. The school spotlight was informational and did not require board action.
