Kaufman County commissioners approved a professional services agreement with Westwood for schematic and environmental design work on FM 148, from just north of U.S. 175 to County Road 261 (Country Woods Road). County staff said the contract, cited at $2,620,000, will support planning for widening the roadway from two lanes to a four‑lane divided facility to accommodate traffic from several ongoing and planned residential developments along the corridor.

County staff noted coordination with the city of Crandall, which has expressed interest in moving the project forward, and referenced multiple developments in the area that will generate substantial traffic. Commissioners approved the agreement by motion; no amendments were recorded during the meeting.
