WENATCHEE — During public comment a local resident told the Wenatchee City Council he was threatened while riding his bicycle across the George Sellar Bridge and asked the council to explore passing a “no sit, no lie” ordinance for sidewalks.
“I would like the city of Wenatchee to explore and pass a no sit, no lie ordinance for our sidewalks,” said Ace Bollinger, who gave his address in East Wenatchee. Bollinger described an encounter he said occurred about 9 p.m. on the George Sellar Bridge, where he reported a man carrying two 3-inch round sticks, four feet long with sharpened edges, stepped toward him and that he feared for his life.
Bollinger said the incident has made him afraid to ride at night and urged council members to “consider looking at whatever it has in the statue as a no sit, no lie.” He also told the council he plans to carry a concealed weapon for self-protection going forward. His remarks were made in public comment; there is no record in the meeting transcript of council directing staff to research or bring back an ordinance.
What Bollinger asked for
- That the city explore and consider adopting a no sit/no lie ordinance for sidewalks to address loitering and perceived public-safety threats.
What the record shows
Bollinger spoke during the public-comment period and requested the council explore a legal option; the transcript does not record any immediate council action, referral to staff or subsequent vote during the meeting.
