John Starmer, MMRC science director and Kihei resident, reiterated that wetlands and watershed work on land reduces damaging sediment and nutrient runoff to reefs, and asked the council to prioritize Mauka highway planning rather than piecemeal connector work that would drive traffic into neighborhoods. He urged continued support for reef restoration and reef‑friendly landscaping pilots with hotels and agricultural partners.
