Prescott Valley — Kimberly Lopez, president of the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo, used the April 20 public-comment period to reject claims in a social-media post by a council member that the rodeo had been hosted in Prescott Valley. Lopez said, "I am here to say on behalf of Prescott Frontier Days, you have never had our rodeo out here." She said the group is open to meeting with the council member to discuss the rodeo’s history and plans and invited him to sit down privately to discuss the matter.
The council member named in the comments responded during the meeting, saying roughly 90% of his notes were drawn from meeting minutes and a local Courier article and offering that as his source: "Since I was named in the OML allows a comment back, I believe about 90% of my notes came from minutes of the meeting in Prescott and the content of a courier article. That's all." (Transcript phrasing preserved.)
Lopez said the social-media post included inaccuracies and that she would provide the correct contact for the Turquoise Circuit rodeo organizers if the council member wished to pursue that lead. She also stood with her vice president, Rex Hinshaw, when making the statement. The council did not take formal action on the exchange; Lopez said she would welcome a private conversation to resolve misunderstandings.
Ending: The exchange remained in the public-comment portion of the meeting; Lopez's invitation for a private meeting could lead to follow-up outside a future council agenda.
