The Saratoga Springs Civil Service Commission on April 30 approved a package of routine personnel actions: multiple noncompetitive and labor-class appointments across the school district, city departments, and seasonal positions; provisional appointments; completed probationary periods; job specification updates for the police sergeant title; and several leaves of absence.
Under the school docket the commission approved noncompetitive class appointments for a part-time custodian, a groundskeeper, two school bus assistants, four school bus drivers and four teacher aides. It also approved a labor-class appointment for food service helpers and recorded completed probationary periods for one groundskeeper and one teacher aide. The commission accepted the school administration’s request to move those items as a class.
City and departmental actions included approval of one City Centre laborer; several Department of Public Works laborers (part-time/seasonal); a promotional and noncompetitive class appointment for a motor equipment operator; and a provisional appointment to principal engineering technician. The commission approved a leave of absence for a DPW laborer and for a water treatment plant operator.
In finance the commission approved a provisional appointment for director of finance while the civil‑service exam grades are pending; it also established a network administrator appointment (the network administrator position’s provisional status was resolved to permanent during the meeting). A leave of absence for a help‑desk technician was approved, with staff noting recruitment is ongoing for other IT vacancies.
Public safety actions included proposed updates to the Police Sergeant job specification (intended to streamline wording and not to change duties) and a provisional appointment to an Animal Control Officer/Parking Enforcement Officer title. Carissa Salvo, staff coordinator, said the police sergeant exam will be administered in June and that many minimum‑qualification edits were clerical.
Recreation items included noncompetitive part‑time appointments for three recreation assistants. The commission also reviewed the establishment of several eligible lists and scheduled exams noted in the civil‑service report.
Where votes were recorded the commission approved each action; motions were seconded and recorded as "Aye." The meeting concluded with scheduling discussion for upcoming meetings and adjournment at 10:01 a.m.
