The Rules Committee on May 5 voted unanimously to appoint Ted Jackson to seat 2 and Jane Redmond to seat 10 of the In‑Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority, with terms described on the agenda as ending March 1, 2028.
The IHSS Public Authority advises the city on home‑care services and related policies that affect residents who receive in‑home care and the workers who provide those services. Ted Jackson told the committee he is a person with multiple disabilities, works for the Marin Center for Independent Living and has extensive statewide experience advocating for IHSS worker wages and recipients. "We run a registry, but also advocating for IHSS worker wages," Jackson said, summarizing his background in advocacy and policy.
Grace Lee of the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD), who staffs the SOMA Community Stabilization Fund committee earlier in the agenda, explained the IHSS item had multiple applicants and that some candidates were not present but had submitted statements. Jane Redmond said she is an IHSS recipient and prefers to work behind the scenes; she said she wants to "speak for people who can't speak for themselves." There were no members of the public in the room who asked to speak on the IHSS appointments.
Supervisor Walton moved to appoint Ted Jackson to seat 2 and Jane Redmond to seat 10; the clerk recorded Vice Chair Cheryl: aye; Member Madeline: aye; Chair Walton: aye. The motion passed without objection. No amendments or conditions were recorded.
