The Operations Committee approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the City of Chamblee to permit a plan adjustment needed to finish the DeKalb County animal-shelter kennel expansion.
Facilities staff presented photographs of the kennel modules being assembled on site and described features including individual indoor watch tables, HVAC units, food and water access, and attached outside runs. Facilities staff said four kennel modules will be installed and the project remains on schedule for a July 1 opening. When asked about timing, the facilities presenter (identified in discussion as Kip from facilities) replied, “July 1.”
County staff said the IGA allows a minor encroachment in Chamblee’s land-development rules to move a rear building closer to the shelter facility footprint; the change is required for the installed modules to fit the site as planned. The committee approved the walk-on IGA and urged staff to complete final steps so the shelter can begin using the new kennels on schedule.
Commissioners and advocates present thanked staff and volunteers and said the outdoor-run design was preferred by several attendees; staff confirmed construction schedule and noted remaining administrative steps were procedural.
