The Los Angeles City Council on Oct. 3 presented a resolution honoring Jane Kennedy for a long career in television, sports broadcasting, fitness programming and film production, and for the publication of her memoir. Councilmember Heather Hutt introduced the item and noted Kennedy’s pioneering role as one of the first African American women in national sports broadcasting.

Council speakers cited Kennedy’s roles on national television and fitness programming, her NAACP Image Award, and appearances in film and stage work. The proclamation referenced Kennedy’s recent memoir Plain Jane (released Sept. 2, 2025) and her appearances at cultural landmarks including the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Kennedy spoke in the chamber about her personal history and career challenges, including an account of her NFL Today audition and on‑air work. She thanked city leaders, film liaison staff and union colleagues and accepted the council’s resolution.
