The Keizer Volunteer Coordinating Committee on Oct. 10 voted to forward two nominees to City Council for Volunteer of the Quarter recognition for the third quarter. The motion, as read into the record, named Kendra Gerloff and Carol Phelps; the committee assigned recognition dates of Nov. 4 and Nov. 18, respectively.

"It has been mutually celebrated that Ken and Carol will be volunteer of the quarter for third quarter," Dawn Valen, chair, said after the vote. The committee—and the nominees present—were thanked during the meeting.

A motion was made and seconded to forward the nominees to the City Council with the specified recognition dates. Committee members voted by voice; those in favor responded "aye" and no opposed responses were recorded.

The committee discussed whether to name two honorees in the same quarter or to stagger recognition into separate quarters. Several members noted precedent for joint awards when nominees worked on the same project, and one member said city council previously awarded two people together and gave each a commemorative clock. Members who spoke in favor of forwarding both nominees said it would ensure timely recognition and allow one nominee to be recognized sooner if health or timing warranted.
