At its July 11 meeting in the Gordon Persons Auditorium, the Alabama State Board of Education unanimously approved the meeting agenda and previous minutes, elected board officers for the 2023–24 term and adopted multiple resolutions, including approval of an educator-preparation program and revisions to career and technical education course of study documents.
The board confirmed Tracy West as vice president for the 2023–24 term and elected Dr. Tanya Chestnut as president pro tem; the nominations and confirmations were approved by unanimous voice/hand votes on the record. The board also adopted a resolution honoring Dr. Karen Anderson as the Barbara Fanny Memorial employee of the quarter for July through September 2023.
In other formal actions the board approved a resolution to authorize an innovation educator-preparation program for Jacksonville State University and consented to revisions to the 2022 Career and Technical Education State Course of Study for the Architecture & Construction career cluster and for the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics career cluster. Each motion was moved and the board recorded unanimous approval.
No public speakers were registered for the meeting. The board adjourned and scheduled its next regular meeting for Aug. 10, 2023, at 10 a.m. in the Gordon Persons Auditorium.
