The Brownsville City Secretary’s office announced candidate packets are available for prospective candidates for the May 3, 2025 municipal election and said the office will hold an informational seminar for potential candidates.

The broadcast reported three city commission positions are up for election and said candidate packets may be picked up in person at the city secretary’s office during regular business hours. The city secretary announced the filing period begins Jan. 15 and that to appear on the May 3 ballot candidates must submit their applications by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.

City Secretary Maya D'Rios was quoted explaining the office has an elections services help desk where prospective candidates can obtain a candidate packet and additional guidance. The broadcast said a public information session will be held Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall to explain eligibility and filing requirements.

The broadcast cited requirements set by the Texas Ethics Commission and the Texas Election Code: prospective candidates must be at least 18 years old, be a registered voter in the district they seek to represent, have lived in the state for at least 12 months and have resided in the district for at least six months before the election. The broadcast did not clearly specify the at-large seat designation that is up for election; it described three seats as District 3, District 4 and an at-large position but did not provide the at-large designation used on the ballot.
