The superintendent (name not specified in the transcript) updated the committee on instructional leadership activities, capital approvals from the recent town meeting and the creation of a district AI steering team.
The leadership team has focused classroom visits on evidence of student-centered instructional practices and indicators such as student voice and choice. The superintendent said principals and administrators are visiting classrooms to observe and support first-year teachers.
Tom Reeve, director of digital learning and technology, will lead an AI steering team that will include teachers, administrators, parents, students and other staff. The steering team will meet monthly after school; the superintendent said interested parents and guardians can sign up via principal e-notes and that selections will be made to ensure a diversity of perspectives. "You don't need to be an AI expert, just someone who is curious and open minded," the superintendent said while announcing the team.
The superintendent reported that town meeting approved FY26 budget adjustments and several capital items, including Chromebook replacements, a new security camera at Old Post Road, interactive smart boards and snow-removal equipment. Additional security-camera replacements were also noted as planned expenditures aligned with district priorities.
The superintendent also said the first meeting of the student superintendent cabinet was held yesterday and that the cabinet reviewed prior-year accomplishments and discussed priorities for the coming year. Committee members discussed rescheduling the November meeting to November 20 because several members will attend the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents conference.
