District staff told the Bolivar R‑I Board of Education they have formed a safety committee and plan to address multiple items tied to Senate Bill 68, bullying prevention, reunification procedures and bus safety.
Mike Pitch said the safety committee’s first meeting is scheduled for Oct. 31 and will include updates from key stakeholders and group discussion of priorities. He listed planned work items tied to Senate Bill 68, including bullying prevention and response, the Raptor reunification process, and bus safety doors and cameras.
Pitch also highlighted nursing and health services work. “Our school nurses have taken the lead with the safety initiative in Senate Bill 68,” he said, adding the nursing team developed a cardiac emergency response plan, organized Stop the Bleed training and strengthened CPR readiness. He said Aaliyah has worked closely with Scott at the high school to standardize AED placement and strategic locations.
Pitch reported a drop‑off reorganization at Bolivar Middle School that improved morning traffic flow and safety; he credited school staff and the SROs for the change. Two board members volunteered to serve on the district’s health insurance review team (see separate article on insurance), and Pitch said the safety committee will return with reports and action items.
The discussion was informational; the board did not take immediate policy action but assigned board member participation to the committee.
