City staff announced a ribbon cutting for the new paved trail and discussed trail rules and dog‑leash policy during the Oct. 23 council meeting.
Director Eckendorf said the paved trail ribbon cutting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. and invited the community to attend. "We're looking forward to being able to build on that, in the years, moving forward... we've got our paved trail ribbon cutting ceremony next Wednesday, October 29 at 05:30PM," Eckendorf said.
The parks and recreation commission reported discussion about allowing bicycles on the trail and how to treat e‑bikes and scooters. Councilors and staff said they do not plan to ban bicycles or e‑bikes; instead they will manage them through posted rules and a speed limit for e‑bikes and scooters on the path. The commission recommended maintaining an 8‑foot leash requirement for dogs in parks (the council noted an 8‑foot leash in parks predates recent neighborhood leash changes). Staff and council emphasized enforcement would be complaint-driven rather than continuous police presence.
The city also said park users should expect increased trail traffic and directed the parks department to finalize signage and operational rules ahead of the ribbon cutting.
