The Michigan House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 187, a memorial tribute to former state Representative Lamar Lemons Jr., after the clerk read the resolution on the House floor and a member offered remarks in support.
The resolution, read by the clerk on the floor, recounts Lemons’s military service in the U.S. Air Force, his work in Detroit for Ford Motor Company and Epper Oil Company, and his service in the House representing the Second Representative District. The resolution notes Lemons was first elected in February 2004 and served until his retirement in February 2010.
Representative Myers Phillips spoke in favor of the resolution, calling Lemons a public servant who “lived the very definition of service.” Phillips also highlighted Lemons’s work on legislation affecting graduation requirements and dropout rates and mentioned that Lemons served alongside his son for a period while both were House members.
After the reading and remarks, the speaker called for members in favor of the memorial resolution to rise; the clerk announced the resolution adopted and the House stood at ease.
The resolution directs that copies be transmitted to Lemons’s family as an expression of the chamber’s esteem.
