West Allis Common Council members approved a resolution authorizing Cable Comp to furnish and install fiber‑optic infrastructure to the new Department of Public Works facility. Council members were told the work is needed to support the DPW data center and IT systems.

A city staff member explained that the electrical/DPW crews had installed conduit in advance but the fiber itself must now be pulled to the new facility. “The lead time is, like, 20 to 30 weeks. So we need to do this right now,” the staff member (Derek) said. Staff also stated the budget for the work is out of the new DPW project budget.

A motion to approve the resolution was moved and seconded and passed on a voice vote. The resolution authorizes contracting to obtain the fiber installation; staff noted long delivery lead times as the reason to proceed immediately.
