The Michigan House unanimously adopted House Resolution 191 on Tuesday to declare Oct. 15, 2025, as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in the state.
Representative Regas, sponsor of the resolution, described her personal losses and urged colleagues to recognize and support families affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death. “More than 650 babies are stillborn per year in Michigan, and another 340 will die within a week of birth due to health issues or prematurity,” she said during an emotional floor statement.
In urging support, Regas said as many as one in five known pregnancies end in miscarriage and called for the chamber and the broader public to stop treating pregnancy loss as a taboo subject. She encouraged lawmakers to create space for grieving parents and to support public awareness of services for affected families.
The House adopted the resolution by voice vote. The floor exchange included extended, personal testimony describing bereavement and the long-term effects on families; no formal amendments or votes on funding were part of the resolution.
The resolution was ceremonial and directs no funding; it formally recognizes a remembrance day and encourages public support and awareness.
