Hollywood Park's police chief reported July statistics to the City Council, described a short vehicle pursuit that ended with officers recovering a gun, and summarized several local theft investigations.
The report gives residents a snapshot of public safety activity and highlights a use‑of‑force and arrest incident that councilors and the chief discussed.
"We had a busy July. We had 383 calls for service, 17 offenses, and 4 arrests," the police chief said. He described a vehicle stop that turned into a short pursuit; when officers approached the stopped car, the chief said a gun was visible at the suspect's feet and an officer "reaches in, grabs the gun, and just tosses it over his shoulder," then deployed a taser twice to take the 17‑year‑old suspect into custody. The suspect required medical attention after ingesting an unknown substance; the chief said he was taken to the hospital.
The chief also described property‑crime activity: an officer observed mail theft and recovered a quantity of mail from a repeat offender; officers also executed a search warrant on the south side of San Antonio and recovered property tied to a business theft. He reported the town had one vehicle stolen in July; in that case the owner left keys in the vehicle and it was later recovered in Spring Branch.
The chief recommended residents use the neighborhood app Nextdoor for timely police messages and said the department uses it to post community alerts specific to Hollywood Park.
Councilors asked for clarification on the vehicle burglary entries in the department's narrative. The chief explained that some entries labeled "criminal mischief" usually reflect break‑ins where nothing identifiable was stolen, which by policy appear as criminal mischief on the spreadsheet. The council took no formal action on the report; it was presented for information.
