Chair Chad called on the commission to pick two community events (not including Island Fest) for commission volunteer support in spring and summer 2025 and reviewed tentative dates and staffing plans.
The commission discussed a string of upcoming events and tentative dates: the Daddy-Daughter Dance in late February (sold out, about 260 attendees), family bowling on March 1, an Easter event on Saturday, April 12 at Centennial Farms ("the farm"), a Mother-Daughter tea tentatively set for April 26, a possible Mother-Son or Father-Son event in May and Island Fest scheduled for May 30–June 1. Chair Chad said, "We would need the commission to pick 2 events, not including Island Fest to volunteer for for spring summer 2025." Commissioners were asked to finalize two picks by March so staff can complete planning and publicity.
Recreation Director Zayd said the office will compile firm dates by the beginning of March and will circulate sign-up sheets and event descriptions. Zayd also reviewed ongoing programming tied to the events calendar, including senior luncheons, brunch-bingo plans and recruiting for rangers and pro-shop attendants at the golf course.
Commissioners reviewed the publisher RFP for the department’s recreation magazine. The RFP went to local outlets including the News-Herald and regional magazines; proposals are due Feb. 13 and the commission will hear presentations from respondents at the Feb. 6 meeting. A commissioner asked why standard vendor insurance requirements (commercial general liability, workers’ compensation and automobile liability) were included in the RFP; staff said the language follows prior contracts and is intended to protect the township in routine delivery and production situations.
Other business covered during the programming discussion included plans to begin posting job applications for spring and summer positions in March and a likely return to a campus-style job fair at the schools to recruit lifeguards and camp counselors.
The commission had no formal agenda actions tied to event approvals during the meeting; members agreed to reconvene with final recommendations in March.
