At its Jan. 2, 2025 meeting Canton City Council recorded the following formal actions and outcomes:

• Agenda approval (as amended): Motion to approve the meeting agenda as amended (added New Business item D). Outcome: approved; chair announced all members voted in favor.

• Minutes: Motion to approve the Dec. 19, 2024 council meeting minutes. Outcome: approved; all members voted in favor.

• Procurement policy for federally/state funded transportation projects: Staff sought council approval to move forward with an updated procurement policy required by GDOT for grant/loan applications. A council member moved to approve staff (Ms. Watson) to move forward with the procurement policy. Outcome: motion carried (council recorded ayes).

• GTIB loan application — Marietta Road Realignment and Hickory Flat Highway Improvement Project: Motion to approve a resolution authorizing preparation, submission and a funding commitment for a Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank loan application (staff noted $5,000,000 request and up to 20‑year repayment). Outcome: approved unanimously.

• Endorsement of Cherokee County SRTA GTIB funding application for Airport Road Spur (New Business D): Motion to approve a resolution endorsing Cherokee County State Road and Tollway Authority’s GTIB funding application for the Airport Road Spur (Phases 5–6 of Technology Ridge Parkway and portion of Phase 3). Staff noted the project lies outside city limits and imposes no financial obligation on Canton but will improve access into the city; outcome: approved unanimously.

• Call of general election: Staff presented a resolution setting the Nov. 4, 2025 general election and proposed qualifying dates and fee; council did not vote on the resolution at this meeting and will consider it at the next meeting.

• Appointments and reappointments: Motion to appoint Sean Toland as mayor pro tem for 2025 and to reappoint Jack Champine to the Main Street Board. Both motions were approved by unanimous voice vote.

• Adjournment: Motion to adjourn approved.

Land‑use public hearings held (no final votes during this meeting): public hearings were opened for CUP2410‑005 (208 townhomes along Misty Way/Misty Court) and for CUP2411‑001/MPA2410‑003 (amendment to allow fee‑simple ownership); council received public comment and asked staff for follow‑up information but took no final action on those items.
