Votes at a glance: minutes, stop controls and traffic-calming measures move forward

At its Jan. 8, 2025 meeting the St. Louis City Public Infrastructure and Utilities Committee approved routine minutes and advanced or passed several board bills dealing with traffic controls and speed-hump corrections.

Key committee actions and outcomes

- Approval of minutes: The committee approved the minutes of Dec. 11, 2024. The clerk recorded a 4–0 vote in favor during the roll call at the start of the meeting.

- Board Bill 149 — Hodiamont Greenway stop controls: Committee recommended a do-pass for new two-way stop signs and accompanying Greenway improvements (see separate article). Roll call recorded five yes votes; motion sustained.

- Board Bill 144 — MoDOT driver education grant: Committee recommended a do-pass to accept and appropriate highway safety grant funds for a driver education program for city students. Motion carried; the bill proceeds to the full Board of Aldermen.

- Board Bill 147 — Correction to prior speed-hump ordinance: The bill amends a line in a previously adopted speed-hump ordinance to correct a street name error. Committee adopted the measure without objection and passed it out of committee.

- Board Bill 148 — Stop signs at Boeing and Livingston: The bill would change a two-way stop to a four-way stop at Boeing and Livingston following community and TrailNet input about prior accidents at that intersection. Committee passed the bill with a do-pass recommendation.

- Board Bill 151 (committee substitute) — Speed humps on Livingston Drive: After discussion about recent crashes and community requests for traffic calming, the committee adopted a committee substitute and approved the measure with a do-pass recommendation; sponsors indicated the humps respond to repeated incidents where vehicles left the roadway.

All items above either recorded a formal do-pass recommendation from committee or were passed without recorded objection. Each bill will follow the standard path to the full Board of Aldermen for final action.
