Orange County Legislature designates official newspapers for 2025; adds Warwick Valley Dispatch

The Orange County Legislature on Jan. 2 adopted resolutions designating the newspapers that will publish official county notices and local laws during 2025, citing Section 214 of County Law. The resolutions name several local publications as official outlets for publishing concurrent resolutions, election notices and local laws.

Listed publications named in the resolutions include: The Goshen Independent; Hudson Valley Press; News of the Highlands (The Cornwall Local); Times Herald-Record; Times Hudson Valley Media newspapers, including the Wallkill Valley Times and Mid-Hudson Times; Strauss Newspapers (Warwick Advertiser); Photo News; The Chronicle and others as read into the record.

During debate on the Republican-designated list, a legislator moved to add the Warwick Valley Dispatch. The amendment passed on a roll call of 14 ayes and 6 nos. The resolution as amended later passed on a final roll call (18 ayes, 2 nos). One legislator questioned duplication of publications serving the same towns; proponents noted multiple local outlets cover different towns and readerships.

The Legislature cited subdivision 2 of Section 214 of County Law as the statutory basis for designating official newspapers. Members did not attach financial allocations to the designations; the action establishes which publications will be used for legally required public notice during 2025.
