Pierre Shagnon was reelected chairman of the Chautauqua County Legislature at the body's organizational meeting on Jan. 2, 2025, winning the required majority in a roll-call vote that produced 15 affirmative votes and four members absent.
The vote took place after Legislator Robert Bankowski nominated Shagnon and nominations were closed by motion. The clerk conducted a roll-call vote that the presiding officer said produced 15 votes for Shagnon; the presiding officer then declared him the newly elected chairman for 2025.
Shagnon thanked the clerk and the legislature and said he was "honored to continue in the position of chairman of the Chautauqua County Legislature." He said he would "continue to adhere to high moral standards and do my very best to demonstrate servant leadership," and named Legislators Jamie Gustafson and Tom Nelson as members of the leadership team.
The election occurred at the start of the legislature's organizational meeting, which also included roll call, the invocation and pledge, and other routine organizational resolutions. After the vote, Shagnon delivered brief remarks that invoked public-service themes and urged legislators to focus on improvements to policies, programs and procedures in 2025.
No motions to overturn or amend the result were recorded in the transcript. The clerk recorded the roll-call vote that produced the 15 affirmative votes and the presiding officer announced the result immediately after the tally.
