Council appoints Christopher R. Cortez to Ward 3 vacancy

The Roswell City Council appointed Christopher R. Cortez to fill the Ward 3 vacancy created by the resignation of Councilor Chappell.

Councilor Kevin Hildebrand moved to approve the nomination and the motion was seconded; the council then confirmed the appointment by roll call. Christopher R. Cortez introduced himself to the council as an operations manager at Atkins Engineering Associates and described his experience with water rights, surveying and environmental work.

Councilors cited Cortez's prior service on planning and zoning bodies and said that experience and his engineering background were factors in the selection. The council arranged to have him sworn in and seated so he may vote at subsequent meetings.
