Physician Preferred Products LLC, doing business as Doc’s Apothecary, asked the Northglenn Marijuana Licensing Authority to approve a change of location for its medical and retail marijuana operations from 21100 East 112th Avenue, Unit 5, to a newly constructed building on the adjacent parcel at 21150 East 112th Avenue.
City planning staff told the authority the application met local distance and location criteria. Applicant Dr. Ramos (representing Physician Preferred Products LLC) presented site plans and elevations and emphasized three themes he said would improve public safety and business operations if the relocation is approved: increased daytime visibility and lighting, substantially more adjacent parking, and a building layout that places product storage behind multiple enclosed layers for added security.
Dr. Ramos described the current layout as “to the back end of this larger concrete structure” with limited frontage and about four on-site spaces adjacent to the store, which requires customers to park across a travel lane in a dirt lot in some cases. In the proposed building, he said the storefront would sit at the front of the parcel with approximately 22 adjacent spaces plus handicap stalls and lighting. He also outlined a floor plan that would keep product and packaging secured behind inner walls so that staff would retrieve product after customers placed orders.
The applicant also explained a proposed drive-up/pickup lane. Dr. Ramos said curbside pickup during the COVID emergency created a “bit of a zoo” and argued a permanent, regulated pickup lane would improve safety and allow the business to serve customers — including medical patients — without adding curbside congestion. He also argued that delivery from neighboring jurisdictions has reduced local sales and that a drive-up option would help local retailers remain competitive.
After public testimony ended with no written comments for or against the application, the licensing authority moved to direct the city attorney to prepare a draft resolution approving the change of location; that draft resolution is to return for the authority’s action at its next scheduled meeting on Jan. 27. Council member Goff moved the directive; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Ending — next step
Staff will present a draft resolution of approval for formal action at the January 27 meeting of the licensing authority. The application also will proceed through any required planning and building approvals and state licensing review before a final local license transfer is effective.
