The Parker Town Council on Jan. 13, 2025, voted to appoint Eric Franzen to fill the council seat vacated by Joshua Rivero, voting 5-0 during a special meeting called under the town's home rule charter.
Council discussion, led during the meeting by a council member identified as John, said the council considered 10 initial applicants, narrowed that pool to nine who came forward, interviewed four finalists and selected Franzen based on experience with town processes, availability, fit with council culture and potential longevity. "I was looking for disqualifiers," John said describing his approach to the panel's review.
The appointment was made by motion under section 2.9 of the Town of Parker home rule charter; the agenda had noted the meeting was called under section 3.8 regarding special meetings and was posted at Parker Town Hall and on parkerco.gov. After the motion to appoint Franzen was moved and seconded (mover and seconder not specified on the record), council members Barrington, Hendricks, Diane, Folks and Hefta recorded affirmative votes, and the motion passed 5-0.
A judge administered the oath of office; the appointee spoke briefly after being sworn. "I'm so deeply honored for the opportunity to serve the town of Parker," Franzen said, thanking family members who attended.
Council members and staff noted the appointee will serve the remainder of the term, which the council described as about 23 months; the council did not state whether Franzen intends to run in the next general election. The mayor stated he abstained from the selection process because the vacancy was his former seat.
With no further business, the special meeting was adjourned.
