Wichita City Council members agreed by unanimous consent during an agenda review on Jan. 7 to stop printing paper copies of meeting minutes and to publish minutes only in an online or digital format.
The change was announced during the council’s routine agenda review. Council members raised no objections when the proposal to discontinue printed minutes was put to them, and the council indicated the change would take effect immediately. “From now on, the minutes will be solely online or digital format,” the mayor said during the exchange.
City Manager Layton had opened the agenda review and proceeded to summarize other items scheduled for upcoming meetings. The shift to digital-only minutes was presented as a measure “to save on paper,” according to the discussion recorded during the meeting.
The council did not take a formal roll-call vote on the change; the record shows it was adopted by no objection. The city manager and council did not specify technical details during the review about where online minutes will be hosted, whether archived printed copies will remain available on request, or how the city will notify residents without internet access. Those implementation details were not specified in the agenda review.
The item was announced at the start of the Jan. 7 meeting during the agenda review led by City Manager Layton.
