City staff presented a residential garbage collection reroute intended to increase efficiency, reduce costs and cut customer complaints. The plan consolidates routes using Interstate 95 as a dividing line and would move some addresses to different collection days.

Chad Gressick, director of management, said routes were last adjusted about 10 years ago and the revised configuration will make truck runs more compact and consistent. Staff said the new schedule would assign one set of neighborhoods to Monday/Thursday and another to Tuesday/Friday, with bulk-collection schedules largely unchanged.

Officials estimated about 75–100 homes would be affected and described an outreach program that will include direct messages on bills when possible, temporary signage in affected neighborhoods, press releases, messages via the Deerfield Beach Waste Watch app and relaxed code enforcement during the transition period. Staff indicated the outreach would begin immediately with the new routes scheduled to take effect March 1.

Commissioners asked about communication and the city said staff will use multiple channels and encouraged residents to sign up for the Waste Watch app. No vote was recorded on the change during the presentation; staff requested authorization to begin outreach and to implement the schedule on March 1 subject to the commission's approval process.
