The Tolland Board of Education voted unanimously Oct. 22 to accept the board'of'ed and TAS administrative bargaining-unit agreement, effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029.
Board members said the agreement was modest relative to recent Connecticut settlements and included several contractual clarifications. A presenter at the meeting said the average settlement among districts during the same negotiation period was 9.92 percent and that the TAS agreement reflected a 9.49 percent settlement. The presenter reported a total cost for the contract of $200,009.27.
The presenter described several changes included in the agreement: updated wording to align administrative language with other bargaining units, expanded bereavement leave language to allow discretion when a non-parent caregiver acted as an employee's primary family member, and cleaned-up language on work-related injuries. The presenter also said health insurance premiums rise during the contract period; the transcript recorded the phrase "go up by 2, 1%" when describing that change.
Board Chair K. moved the contract forward to board action, and members then voted during the board-action portion of the meeting. During roll call, board members recorded "Aye" votes from Renee; Ryan; Phil; Dana; Katie; Dan; Jayden; and the chair. The motion passed unanimously.
The superintendent and other speakers at the meeting emphasized the district's interest in retaining experienced administrators, saying the role of administrators includes curriculum, state reporting and hands-on student support. The board record shows the motion to accept the TAS administrative bargaining-unit agreement and the subsequent unanimous vote.
The agreement will next go to the town council for a final vote, as required by district procedure for bargaining-unit contracts.
