The House General Laws subcommittee voted 7-0 to report House Bill 1737, which adds the Virginia Veterans Network online portal to the statutory responsibilities of the Commissioner of the Department of Veterans Services (DVS).

Sponsor Delegate Reid said the portal, launched by DVS in the previous month, is designed to centralize information and referrals for veterans across the commonwealth. Mary Taylor of Combined Arms, a veterans nonprofit that operates a referral network platform, testified in favor and said that since the portal’s November 11, 2024 launch the Department of Veterans Services had served more than 36,100 veterans and service members through the platform.

Taylor said the bill would provide stability and sustainability for the portal by making it a program of record. The bill was moved and seconded and reported out of subcommittee, 7-0.

The bill will proceed as reported by the subcommittee.
