San Diego Community Power’s Finance & Risk Management Committee recommended on Jan. 16 that the Board approve a contract with Maher Accountancy to provide general accounting services through Jan. 31, 2027, with two optional one‑year extensions.
The vote came after a presentation from Dr. Eric Washington, San Diego Community Power’s chief financial officer, who said Maher Accountancy has provided accounting services to the agency “pretty much from its inception” and that the firm has experience with California community choice aggregators (CCAs). Washington said the contract’s scope was aligned with the agency’s anticipated program growth and the need to track related financial reporting.
Washington summarized the contract terms: an initial term through Jan. 31, 2027, not to exceed $1,131,000, plus two optional one‑year extensions capped at $377,000 each. The committee’s motion was to recommend the contract to the full Board with authorization for the chief executive or operations officer to execute the agreement if approved by the Board.
Director Grimani asked a date‑alignment question; Washington confirmed the contract dates were corrected to align with a three‑year initial period and one‑year extension options. There were no public comments on the item.
A committee member moved to recommend approval to the Board; another member seconded. The committee chair called the question and the motion carried unanimously. The contract will advance to the Board for final action and execution if approved.
The discussion was procedural and focused on vendor selection, contract term alignment and continuity of accounting services rather than changes to the agency’s accounting policies.
Committee action advances a multi‑year accounting services contract to the Board for final approval and execution by the agency’s executive staff.
