The Agoura Hills Planning Commission held an organizational meeting in Agoura Hills where new and reappointed commissioners took the oath of office and the panel elected its 2025 leadership.
The commission approved the meeting agenda and adopted the consent calendar by unanimous roll-call votes, then nominated and elected Vice Chair Roth as chair and Commissioner Reinhart as vice chair in separate roll-call votes that each passed 5-0. City staff, led by Community Development Director Denise Thomas, asked commissioners to indicate interest in the Planning Commissioners’ Academy and offered onboarding for newly appointed members.
The meeting opened with the administration of the oath of office by City Clerk Kimberly Rodriguez. After roll call confirmed a five-member quorum, Commissioner Reinhart moved to approve the agenda; Commissioner Stein seconded and the roll-call vote passed 5-0. Commissioner Sharon then moved to adopt the consent calendar; Commissioner Stein seconded and that motion also passed 5-0.
Nominations for chair followed. Commissioner Sharon nominated Vice Chair Roth; Commissioner Stein seconded. The commission then voted by roll call, with all members recorded as voting “aye,” electing Roth as chair by a 5-0 tally. For vice chair, Commissioner Sharon nominated Commissioner Reinhart; Commissioner Stein seconded. That motion also passed on a 5-0 roll-call vote.
Staff remarks were limited. Denise Thomas, community development director, said staff had emailed commissioners about interest in attending the Planning Commissioners’ Academy and asked that commissioners reply. Thomas said the city pays conference and travel expenses but asked that nominees attend if selected because the city cannot obtain refunds for last-minute cancellations: "If you are interested, please, send me an email," she said. Thomas also offered onboarding to the newly appointed commissioner and asked that that new commissioner contact her to schedule the session prior to the next meeting.
During brief commissioner comments, several members expressed appreciation for firefighters and city staff responding to recent regional fires and thanked residents and colleagues for their support. No public commenters signed up to speak and no written public comments were received for the items discussed.
The commission adjourned and noted its next regular meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, in the City Council Chambers at the Civic Center in Agoura Hills.
