Board approves $240,106 audiovisual contract for MAPS; construction slowed by cold weather

The Middletown Area School District board approved a contract to install audiovisual systems in the gymnasium and cafeteria at Middletown Area Primary School (MAPS) and received an update that an elementary-level construction site has slowed due to cold weather.

Mister Meiser, a district operations representative, told the board that framing for the new operations building is complete and roofs are being installed, but cold ground temperatures have delayed work on footers and foundations. “The frame's up, but the cold weather has really slowed us down,” Meiser said, adding that crews will resume foundation work once temperatures rise (the presentation referenced a threshold of getting “above 2 degrees”). He said equipment submissions and approvals are proceeding and that walls are nearly complete.

The board then considered a procurement motion: to approve a contract with Illuminated Integration to provide and install audiovisual systems for the MAPS gymnasium and cafeteria at a total cost of $240,106.40, using CoStar pricing and capital project funds. Board members voiced their approval; the motion carried on a voice vote.

Board discussion included the selection of the vendor, described by staff as new to the district but not a new company, and brief location context: staff said Illuminated Integration moved from Harrisburg and has a facility near Foley Mill Road adjacent to the Lower Sword Air Fire Hall.

No amendments were made to the contract at the meeting and the board gave staff authority to proceed under the approved funding source.
