Terrell commission seat opens after member forfeits remainder of term

A commission seat is open after a member notified city staff he would forfeit the remainder of his term, staff reported during the meeting.

The staff member said the city received an email from a commissioner identified as Voigt stating he would not be present and that the absence would have been his second unexcused absence; Voigt then informed staff he could not continue and would forfeit the remainder of his term, the presenter said. The presenter told commissioners the commission should have nine members under the charter and asked that anyone with recommendations contact Mayor Ronnie Veloquez to propose applicants for the vacancy.

A commissioner asked whether a person can serve on more than one board at a time. The staff member said it depends on the boards involved, noting volunteers sometimes serve on multiple boards but that rules vary by board. Separately, the presenter apologized for a prior miscommunication and said that an absence by Matt Malone on Dec. 19 had been excused because he recused himself due to an application he had submitted.

No formal appointment or further action on the vacancy was recorded at the meeting; the presenter said recommendations should be made to the mayor for appointment.
