Regents approve consent agenda, several capital items and move to closed session; roll call recorded for closed session

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents handled several procedural and capital items in open session and then voted to enter closed session by roll call to consider a student request review and chancellor performance evaluations under Wisconsin statutes.

At the start of the meeting the board approved the consent agenda, which included capital planning budget requests listed as resolutions 4A, 4B and 4C (authority to construct: classroom innovation instructional technology improvement program; all agency maintenance and repair projects; and minor facilities renewal projects). The consent agenda was adopted on a voice vote after the chair asked whether any member wished to remove items.

The board then took separate votes on items covered in other articles: resolution 5 authorizing UW–Madison to lease and potentially purchase two parcels (adopted), and the authorization to demolish four buildings at UW–Eau Claire and the old chemistry building at UW–Milwaukee and redevelop a new quad at UWM (adopted). The proposed revision to Regent Policy Document 2027 (resolution 7) was debated at length and the board ultimately voted to table that proposal for redrafting rather than adopt it.

Before leaving open session, the board moved to enter closed session to consider (A) a student request review of a UW–Madison decision under Wis. Stat. § 19.85(1)(a),(f) and (g), and (B) performance evaluations of chancellors under Wis. Stat. § 19.85(1)(c). Regent Megan (the meeting clerk) conducted a roll call vote on the motion to move into closed session; the transcript records individual affirmative votes from a majority of regents. The chair paused the public broadcast and directed the room to clear for closed session.
