The Texas House suspended the rules and adopted House Resolution 114, commemorating January 27, 2025, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Representative Rosenthal moved to suspend the rules to take up HR 114; there was no objection, and the House considered and adopted the resolution.
In remarks on the floor, Representative Rosenthal described a personal connection to Jewish heritage and urged members to reflect on the Holocaust’s lessons. He said, “I have a deep connection to Israel. … January 27th is observed annually as International Holocaust Remembrance Day to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and to ensure that future generations understand the importance of preventing hatred, prejudice, and discrimination.” Rosenthal noted the approximately 6,000,000 Jewish victims and additional groups persecuted during World War II and called for education to prevent bigotry.
The resolution was adopted after Rosenthal moved approval; the chair announced no objection. Representative Raymond then moved to add all members’ names to the resolution and to reduce Rosenthal’s remarks to writing for placement in the journal; both requests were ordered without objection. The chair ordered the text and remarks placed in the journal.
The House also recognized Dr. Sonakat Parikh of Sugar Land as doctor of the day and offered a brief recognition for Presidio County and County Judge Joe Portillo during member remarks; those recognitions were ceremonial and recorded in the journal as ordered by the chair.
