The LaSalle County Salary and Labor Committee on Oct. 22 considered a proposal for a chief deputy auditor position and related compensation but deferred substantive action until the 2026 budget is finalized. After that discussion the committee approved a motion to enter executive session to discuss compensation of specific employees and discretionary leaves.
An official who identified themselves as bringing the auditor’s proposal said the salary for the position had been presented to the finance committee and that they had intended to bring a proposal on compensation to Salary and Labor. A committee member replied that the budget had been presented to finance but not discussed or approved, and the speaker acknowledged the misstatement and agreed the matter should be tabled until the budget is finalized.
After tabling the auditor compensation item, Chair Steve Aubrey moved that the committee go into executive session under Illinois law to discuss compensation of specific employees and discretionary leaves; James Veil and Mike McEmmry were recorded as mover and second. A roll call vote was taken: Tom Walsh, Mike McEmmry, Cathy Bright, James (recorded as "Bailey" in the roll call), and Chair Aubrey voted in the affirmative; Deena Bush was recorded as not present. The Chair stated the motion carried and the committee entered executive session.
