The Lititz Borough Council unanimously appointed Sergeant Jared Hahn as the boroughs next police chief, with the appointment effective May 2, 2025.
Jerry Meck, personnel committee chair, said the panel used a multi-step, public and structured process including questionnaires from staff and residents, a position profile and standardized interviews. Meck told council the committee voted "unanimously" to recommend Hahn, praising his leadership style, community engagement and references.
"We are delighted tonight, unanimously, to recommend that Sergeant Jared Hahn be our next Lititz Borough police chief," Meck said. Council then made the appointment by motion and unanimous vote.
Mayor Steve and council members described the hiring sequence as deliberate. Meck said the mayor and personnel committee discussed a set of expectations with Hahn; those expectations will be tied to time frames and a written plan. Hahn told council he was honored and described himself as a lifelong Lititz resident who plans to emphasize community policing and collaboration with borough departments.
Council also discussed administrative details for the May 2 transition. Meck said Chief Nye will go on an administrative leave starting May 2 and remain on payroll while the borough and Hahn work out the duties and timing; Hahn is expected to assume day-to-day chief duties at that point. Council indicated personnel and the mayor will document duties, reporting expectations and goals in a memorandum or agreement.
Public comments touched on how the appointment fits with broader questions about department organization and potential regionalization. Meck said assessing the departments structure, staffing and costs, including regional or reorganization options, will be part of the new chief's assessment work and later discussion with council.
Ending: Council approved the appointment and directed staff and the personnel committee to finalize a written transition plan and performance expectations for the new chief.
